The changing corporate brand of Lifespan
On Oct. 15, Lifespan will officially change its name to Brown Medicine, but the signage is already in place
EAST PROVIDENCE – The news this week about the latest corporate developments with Lifespan, the state’s largest health care delivery system, was that it had signed a new PILOT [payment in lieu of taxes] agreement with the City of Providence, providing $1.5 million in voluntary financial contributions over the next three years. It represents the largest annual contribution to Providence since 2014, according to the news release detailing the agreement.
Under the agreement, Providence will quantify in writing that the corporate entity currently known as Lifespan is providing the city with community contributions valued at an estimated $50 million annually.
Exactly what those community contributions are were not quantified in the news release, other than in a quote from Dr. John Fernandez, president and CEO of Lifespan: “Lifespan makes substantial contributions to the city and its residents, providing necessary health care, regardless of ability to pay, along with many programs and services in support of residents’ physical, mental and financial well-being.”
The signage at 375 Wampanoag Trail at the facility in East Providence shows the complexity of the corporate health care delivery system formerly known as Lifespan, which will change its corporate brand to Brown Medicine officially as of Oct. 15.
The building also is the location of the corporate offices of Brown Medicine. In addition, the building contains the offices of Brown Physicians, Inc., which includes Brown Geriatrics, Brown Endocrinology, and Brown Dermatology.
Also located at the 375 Wampanoag Trail location are: Lifespan Laboratories, Rhode Island Hospital Infusion Center, and the Miriam Hospital Medical Imaging.
